Case study: Hakma - platform for young muslims

The Need

In the era of digital technology, growing up can be a complex journey. For Muslim children, the challenge is twofold: navigating the digital world while preserving their Islamic identity. Hakma founders wanted to solve this problem. They wanted an engaging platform that would provide Muslim families with rich audio-visual content such as books, videos, games, etc. all made with the theme of teaching Islamic values yet keeping the content fun for children.

The Challenge

  • A software platform that is fun and engaging for children.

  • A robust publishing platform that can handle large volumes of data downloads and uploads.

  • The flexibility of the platform to accommodate hundreds of illustrators, artists, writers, and editors from around the world.

  • Support for content creation, editing, moderating, and publishing workflow with full audit trails.

  • Support for publishing in external media including physical books, youtube channels, spotify, etc.

  • Build out at the fast pace of a typical startup with the constant need to change and adapt based on data and investor preferences.

The Solution

  • Tablet and mobile app that runs on both IOS and Android. The app provides the primary interface to all the content including books, videos, games, etc.

  • A learning path with gamified elements such as ratings, badges, and digital gifts. The entire process has parental controls and monitoring features.

  • A collaborative publishing platform that works as the back end for the platform. This provides workflow management for the entire content creation, aggregation, editing, and moderation.

  • The platform is built with extensibility in mind. A REST API based integration and plug-in interface opens up future app creations based on the core platform including games and e-learning solutions for schools. The system also interacts with other external systems such as Amazon for publishing content.
